This 28-year-old Glendronach from 1993 is a textbook example of what makes the distillery so beloved: a deep, dark sherry character with an almost oily richness. Matured in an Oloroso sherry puncheon , one of the most influential cask types for old Glendronach, it produces a whisky that combines power, elegance, and distinct complexity.
Nose: Dark raisins, plum compote, cocoa, nut oil and old mahogany notes.
Palate: Full and intense—pure sherry power. Think dark chocolate, figs, aged leather bindings, tobacco, coffee beans, and a thick, syrupy sweetness typical of puncheon maturation.
Finish: Very long, warming, with spices, pure cocoa and deep-dried fruit.
This is classic old-school Glendronach : heavily sherried, dark, almost syrupy, without any modernity. Perfect for lovers of rich, deep, dark sherry whiskies.
Glenfarclas 25 or 30 Year Old – comparable traditional sherry elegance.
Benriach 1990s Sherry Casks – a little lighter, but the same dried fruits and chocolate.
Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 1–10 vibes – but much older, more elegant and deeper.
These types of bottles are excellent for long-term investment :
Glendronach 1993 batches are extremely popular with collectors .
Oloroso puncheon + 28 years old is a rare combination .
Production is low (688 bottles).
Previous 1993 batches have historically increased significantly in value .
No longer being reproduced — 90s stock is depleting fast.
Conclusion: This is both a top whisky for drinking and a solid investment bottle in the sherry-cask category.
