This print is in four layers on Somerset Satin White paper, and is one of a set of prints depicting 21st century Northumbria, inspired by hand-coloured photographs in the 1898 book Japan.
This temporary funfair was named after the original Spanish City on the other side of the road. The permanent funfair had been part of the entertainment for nearly a century. Dire Straits mentioned Spanish City in their song Tunnel of Love.
