This is the first wine to display any appreciable reduction and here it’s enough to mask the fruit though not the supporting oak. Otherwise there is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the bigger-bodied flavors that flash focused power on the firm, austere and serious finale. This relatively refined CdlR should amply reward extended keeping and it is one of the better recent vintages that I have seen for this wine.
