This Glen Moray 2008 is a textbook example of pure, unpolished Speyside whisky, as Blackadder intended. Distilled on July 1, 2008 , matured for 13 years in a hogshead , and bottled in August 2021 , entirely according to the Raw Cask philosophy: unfiltered, uncolored, and straight from the cask.
The nose is open and honest, with ripe pear, apple, and vanilla , complemented by soft malt, honey, and a light spice. No excessive wood, no heavy sherry – this is Glen Moray in its natural form.
On the palate, it reveals itself as full and powerful , with a creamy texture. Sweet malt, toffee, and biscuit are beautifully balanced by fresh fruit notes and a light woody spice. The alcohol ( 58.7% ) provides structure and length, yet remains surprisingly well-integrated. With a few drops of water, it opens up further and becomes even more accessible.
The finish is medium to long, softly spicy, with lingering malt and vanilla notes. Typical Speyside, but with added depth thanks to the cask strength.
This bottling was released to celebrate The Nectar's 15th anniversary , giving it added cachet. Moreover, the edition is extremely limited: just 108 bottles , clearly distinguishing it within the Blackadder range.
