The focal point of this late Victorian five stone ring is a well-proportioned old circular-cut diamond weighing approximately 0.80 carats, between two untreated deep blue sapphires totalling approximately 1.40 carats, and a final pair of smaller circular-cut diamonds. This sequence of blue and white stones is spaced with tiny rose-cut diamonds at the corners, giving the front a nearly seamless effect. From the hand-pierced gallery at the sides of the settings to the unusual stepped shank, the extraordinary metalwork shows that attention has been lavished on every detail of this antique engagement ring.
