DRC, Romanee ContiMild bricking. Plenty of secondary and sous bois notes are present on the cool, elegant and airy nose that reflects notes of spice, earth, dried flower and leather. Mild bricking. Plenty of secondary and sous-bois notes are present on the cool, elegant and airy nose that reflects notes of spice, earth, dried flower and leather. The sleek, intense and rich medium-bodied flavors are supported by bright acidity on the ever-so-slightly lean but highly persistent finish where the sense of minerality really builds as it sits on the palate. I would observe that, like a number of 2002s today, the palate is more youthful than the nose and while this isn’t necessarily a fault, it does suggest that we may have a wine that is not fully harmonious when the tannins are fully resolved. As to what to do, I would opt for allowing for another 5-ish years of cellaring as this will allow for a bit more resolution of the supporting structure but not so much that the finish begins drying out. In sum, this remains a seriously lovely effort that is classy and stylish if not perfectly balanced.
