Left-Hand S-Turn Handrail Fitting (Offset Handrail Fitting) The Left Hand S-Turn fitting is added to a handrail to create an "S" shaped left turn to go around a wall and keep the rail continuous in order to meet residential code.

If you go up the stairs holding the railing with your left hand and the fitting jogs to the right, it's a left hand fitting.
