We had never before heard of direct LED illumination on an otoscope before, this was a first for us. The otoscope uses a very neat and compact LED ring where a conventional otoscope would have fibre optic strands. The end result is an amazing amount of pure light that can be tailored to suit any task, it also means that the head is completely sealed, very compact, and completely unobstructed. The Luxamed features a highly advanced digital on/off switch with built in rheostat function, automatic off and memory so that the previously selected power is predefined when turning on again. We initially thought The unit was completely sealed, but then found out about the innovative snap on fixing. This feels incredibly secure and also means that in the future it can be added onto if Luxamed decide to enter into the ophthalmoscope/dermatoscope market. The quality of the finish on the otoscope wouldn’t look out of place on a £100 + otoscope set. The aluminium is precisely engineered and the whole package exudes quality German engineering. Better still the 2.5v units use just two AAA batteries which will give hours of continuous light at a digitally managed constant output. We were honestly blown away by the specification of this unit. For the money there is nothing else that even comes close!
