A temple gong is a flat hand-hammered bronze gong, gilded with traditional Nepali iconography.

With no rim to contain and reflect vibration inward, the energy releases immediately and in all directions. This is why handheld template gongs respond with such speed, openness, and portability.

You hold it in one hand and play it with the other, which makes it ideal for close work, travel, and movement around a space during a session.

This is a 12-inch handheld gong handcrafted in Nepal, made to Ohm Store specifications.

The face is engraved with a central Sri Yantra mandala surrounded by concentric bands of mantra script and traditional scrollwork.

Each one is finished by hand, so the linework and patina carry small variations unique to the individual piece.

Sound

The first impression is brightness, then the upper frequencies settle into nice sustain.  

For its size, the dynamic range is excellent.

With a soft strike it produces a delicate, focused tone with fine upper-frequency texture.

With a stronger strike it opens into a full, radiant wash that fills a room far larger than its 12-inch diameter would suggest.

New instruments like these benefit from being played in. Over the first several weeks of regular use, the plate's internal structure will continue to settle and the gong will open further.
