Zi Cao (Lithospermum Erythrorhizon) is a plant species in the genus Lithospermum. It grows up to 1 m in height with a relatively fibrous dark red dyeing root. 2-4 stems are often erect, branched at the top. Leaves are numerous, from lanceolate to oblong, grayish-green, like the stem with hard pubescence. The flowers are medium-sized, almost white. Calyx is bristly hairy, with linear lobes. Corolla is with a short tube and flat bend, 5-7 mm in diameter. Fruits are glabrous, shiny, whitish, 3-4 mm long.
