Left Hand Volute Wood Handrail Fitting (from the bottom of the stair looking up) is that “Curly” piece that is at the beggining of many staircases. It is also an Over the Post System fitting that essentially functions as a starting easing, but extends outward toward the left, and adds an additional flowing effect to the beginning portion of your stair system.

• Must have a pin top newel post below
• Allows continuous flow hand rail
• Mounting hardware & instructions INCLUDED

If you're facing the bottom of the stairway, a right hand volute would be on the right side of the stairway and a left hand volute would be on the left side.
