Original to c.1900, this Burmese ruby five-stone carved half-hoop ring is absolutely breathtaking. To have not one but five natural, unheated rubies with such incredible colour and clarity, meticulously matched, is extraordinary. This is an example of a carved half-hoop ring, a style popularised in the late Victorian era that continued to stay in high demand through the early 20th century.
The rubies are cushion-cut and subtly graduated in size to give a flattering spread of stones across the finger. All rubies are claw-set in an open-back settings, above a gallery featuring scalloped and refined ridge detail, leading to shoulders which are further decorated with hand-engraved fluting, flowing through to a solid D-shape yellow gold band.
Original antique five-stone rings of such high quality as this one are hard to come by - most will have been broken up over the following century to be re-set into more contemporary jewels. This jewel is a truly exceptional example of Edwardian craftsmanship and would be an excellent heirloom piece.
Excellent: all stones are secure and well set, with no damage to the mount. Professionally polished and carefully inspected by our workshop, ready to wear and enjoy.
Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
